I have only seen one faulty one so far. I have heard of a second one that was faulty. So I guess they do fail but its seems to be rare

Its not a good sign, do you have a second battery you can try it with? A faulty battery can cause this issue, it could also be an issue with the power circuit on the mainboard but my money is that one of the processors. Where are you located ?
