Hi all,

I am wondering if somebody had the same problem. I recently bought the GoPro Karma drone (30th of June 2017). After one week I was flying the drone. There was no wind or what so ever. Suddenly my Karma just fell out of the sky into a ditch!
My retailer said that I could send it back and they refund my money. My problem is that I bought the drone after the recall, so it should not fall out of the sky. But it did and now i'm wondering if some of you guys still have the same problem with Karma falling out of the sky?

I hope to buy a new Karma one day but I want to be sure that this problem is solved before anyone gets hurt.

Regards,
Niels

Question: did your Karma lose GPS connection during the flight?

Thanks for your reply. I didn't lost my connection. The crash happend 30m in front of me during the descent. The battery bar was green, my signal too.
But if you lose GPS it should not just fall out of the sky right?

Mine did the same just today, I have flew it for 3 days, twice a day. I noticed it was a little shaky out of the bag on a standard hover, but it hovered steady and flew great. Today I noticed it seemed a little more shaky so I was bringing down to land, out of no where it tilted to one side and went down from about 8ft. Now one motor is loose in its socket like it wiggled its way out and caused the issue. I called GoPro, answered their questions and sent in pics and video today. Let me know how yours turns out.

Gopro did not call back as stated in yesterday conversation with support. I called back today Saturday afternoon and requested to communicate with support manager "Sir William" his name about my replacement karma or full refund of purchase. Seems the Karma care is bullshit if you purchased the plan with GoPro. He said they will make and exception due to drone being lost for a replacement cost of $220.00. He call this a care service fee for Karma replacement. Drone lost GPS signal is an environmental issue on my part due to location I chose to fly the drone. I asked him what assurance do customers have that the drone will not malfunction in the future due to environmental issues? Seems there are many things not listed in the Karma instructions that can cause calibration and lost GPS signals. I am not feeling comfortable about even getting a replacement if I chose to go with the service fee of $200. This can happen anywhere you attempt to fly the Karma drone. Gopro needs to look further into this issues we are talking about in the forums online. I will never purchase anymore GoPro products because of this incident with their support group. Save you money any buy another brand of drone! Gopro Karma have hidden problems that can cause serious accidents unknown. GoPro CEO and upper management must not be aware of the Karma issues happening to this product. The product is not preforming as GoPro is marketing it to the public.

Hi guys,

I decided to sign up today after reading this post, I was on a shoot where my Karma fell out of the sky and smashed in to pieces. Only minutes before this, I was shooting a birds eye shot above them, luckily it didn't happen then when it was hovering over them :( Will contact GoPro tomorrow about this whole thing.

Was filming a sunrise on vacation in Arizona when the drone suddenly fell out of the sky. The handheld controls and the screen froze as this happened, and there was no indication of any other errors. Video footage shows the gimble went limp first, which rotates enough to show all of the propellers spinning properly. Drone arm was bent and gimble destroyed on impact.

Is this still a known problem?!

In a word, yes. I just had mine replaced under warranty after it did this back in Sept. Hovering at about 40 feet, just lost power and dropped to the ground w/ 9 min left on battery. I posted a video here and sent a copy to Go Pro along w/ the logs. The process was a few weeks long but not contentious.

I have GoPro Care but did not want to use it for such a clear warranty issue. Go Pro Customer service was very understanding and courteous but very thorough in collecting and reviewing all of the evidence I had. I am satisfied w their support.

Thats bad, they should not just fall out of the sky, sorry dude

Seems gopro not being forthright , wonder if it related to stabilizer software?? Shutting down mid flight....yikers!!!!

I’m not sure what the problem was but they fixed mine for no charge should be back to me Wednesday

I’m going to get mine back and try to sell it and never buy any thing else from Go Pro

YES, WE DID! AND GOPRO REFUSES TO RECOGNIZE THIS AS AN ISSUE. They instead blamed it on user error without any reasonable logic and would not honor our warranty we had. We also bought after the recall. This product will never work it seems and GoPro's customer service isn't worth dealing with. I'd avoid buying anything with them.

I’ve never been more infuriated and disappointed in a brand. Poor quality product and worst customer service team I have ever encountered!!! We purchased this drone bundle prior to our honeymoon in hopes to use it many more times as we began our family. After only having it for less than 6 months, that was cut short. We took every precaution in configuring it correctly before our last flight, got the green light to go and after only minutes of flying it, the device said it was losing wi-fi connection, which triggered its autopilot mode. During its auto-flight back to us it, it lost control and crashed into a pond below it (that it had autopiloted over). I didn't realize until after, but in reading and researching further, this is actually a common problem. Because it relies on wi-fi it's extremely unreliable and can fall from the sky or hit objects in its path during the autoflight back pretty regularly. And when it does, GoPro refuses to take any accountability so you will not get your money back, even if you have a warranty on it.

We spent hours trying to retrieve it, but could not and deemed it too dangerous to attempt again and near impossible to find any ways. We contacted customer service to see what our options were since we had a two year warranty on it and were only met with robotic responses, a refusal to take any accountability and blame towards us as their consumers, with no real reasonable logic. There was absolutely nothing we could have done differently given the resources that GoPro had provided to have avoided that outcome. When prying to ask to see the flight logs they said they were confidential and would not share them with me, yet used that as an excuse to say that they decided it was not their fault. The main thing they used to blame it on user error was by saying we didn’t properly avoid the possible “wi-fi interference objects” and then they provided a list of objectives you should avoid when flying. The ONLY applicable object in this case was water! Yes, water! So all those advertisements you see on this page and throughout their website and other marketing materials with water on it, turns out you can’t actually do what they are falsely advertising and we should have known that as consumers!!!! For goodness sake, their main video has a man literally launch the karma drone off of his kayak in the middle of the ocean!!! But I should have known to not fly nearby a cranberry bog reservoir!? After months of arguing and being pushed from one terrible customer service representative to another, they offered to replace the least expensive parts, still requiring us to invest $700 for those parts to even work, and spend more money with a brand we no longer could trust. After even more arguing they offered a jokeable 20% discount. And finally, I spoke with an extremely rude and condescending customer service “supervisor”, who by no means should be in this business, that basically sternly told me to give up, take the discount and that they wouldn’t do anything else even if we found it. For a brand that thrives off of human experiences and leverages happy life milestones, they certainly ruined our honeymoon (all our footage was lost) and our babymoon, which we had hoped to use this on as well and were still arguing with them about, and did not deliver the least bit enjoyable customer service experience. I would NOT RECOMMEND buying products from this company unless you are okay wasting your money when they prematurely break and do not anticipate any understanding from the manufacturer. I hope this saves someone months of frustration in dealing with this company and some money.
