Lost GPS signal on my Karma

Received an email today saying my case was closed and I have nothing to show for my £1200 product bought six months ago. Anyone else in a similar situation or am I just a going to be told I had a twenty second window to land it in and it was my fault not the drones that it flew off!!!!!!
HELP!!!

Don't give up, it seems to be their default response.... keep trying & you could get a better result. Persistence is the key to their awful support....

After GoPro has denied any kind of reimbursement, I have talked to the German consumer protection agency. They strongly advised me to file a law suit against GoPro, which is exactly what I will do now. They even raised the possibility of a class action lawsuit because they have also heard that there have been a number of cases like this. Who would be interested in joining?
I have not crashed mine---yet--- However I am terrified to fly it since it always loses GPS signal and has no stability to stay in place once it does. Whats the point of even having it? The camera is pretty nice but I bought a drone not a camera. Thinking of maybe paying the 15% restock fee to best buy and getting a Mavic Pro I hear they have good reviews. Sad but gotta do what i gotta do. Maybe in lawsuit I could get my 15% back lol

Sounds like you would be better suited with the Mavic Pro if you are after a higher performance drone, IMO Mavic is a drone first and a camera second where as Karma is the other way around and then it has the bonus of being able to add in different angles using the gimbal and the grip. If you are after just a drone for the fun of flying then look down the path of building a racing drone, a lot less dollar involved.

Serious advice to a lot of folks loosing or afraid of loosing a Karma is to go buy a cheap RTF quad with no GPS and learn to properly fly it with no GPS. I do not find the Karma that hard to fly with no GPS. Additionally loosing GPS on my Karma has only happened in town with lots of potential interference sources.

I lost GPS signal on my Karma yesterday evening resulting in an uncontrollable, rapid fly away and the disappearance of my drone! My wife and I searched and searched with no luck. I've contacted GoPro and a case was opened I was told. I filled out the questionnaire that was emailed to me. Sadly, the main feature that attracted me to the Karma is the one that failed me! My understanding is that the drone was suppose to fly back to me in the event of GPS signal loss. NOT the case!!! My heart is shattered as I really enjoyed flying my Karma, not to mention the potential loss of my hard earned money for the purchase of it. Any ideas on how long the resolution process may take?

Hi there i lost my Go pro karma 2 months ago while flying in the open ground ,my first flight was normal and with my second flight the karma lost the GPS signal and was travelling with such a speed i was unable to control it manually and the connection between controller and karma was lost eventually i was following the karma but with in like 5 seconds out of my sight and i lost the drone, i had my incident reported to Go pro support ,the response was too slow and after like a week they decided to blame on me but i never gave up ,i had a huge argument with them and finally after 2 weeks they decided to send me a replacement, i know the problems you guys are having and i know exactly how you been through its not just your problems its a issue GOPRO need to fix instead of blaming on Customer, I will recommend all of you to argue with them and dont give up ,if you do that eventually they will send you the replacement.
all the best

Hi AS mention in the email send by GOPRO Supoort who decided to blame
it was my fault of losing the drone , I was unable to control my karma
and the connection between the karma and controller was lost and cant
even do anything with the controller, My question to you guys is are
you guys just selling the GOpro Karma to experienced pilot or is there
any requirement to own a karma, as a customer i trusted your brand and
brought the Karma Drone ,paid 2000 $ which is not a joke, if you guys
are expecting me to know everything ,then why you guys letting anyone
i mean the drone to take up if there is no compass calibration,if you
guys know the connection between karma and controoller will be
affected then why it was allowed to fly in the air at first place, I
was in the open park and as i did mentioned that i had no problems
with my first flight and the compass calibration was done
automatically , does your system asked the customer to do compass
calibration everytime before you make a flight, it does automatically,
i was only asked to compass calibrate when it was a brand new and you
are about to flyfor the first time, apart from never asked me to
dmanually do it .

I hope you guys are takeing this matter seriously instead of making
blame to customer as i am not the only one having this issue,i should
be able to controll my karma if you allow me to fly the karma without
compass calibration, dont say that the connection between the drone
and controller lost beacuse of no compass calibration , i tried to
land the karma as soon as possible but there was no response from the
controller and the karma was travellinng so fast it was over that
35km/hr which is the maximum speed the drone can travel according to
the specification.

I believe i should be offered with a new drone or refund, I know
everything how it was and how i lost my drone , if your are saying it
beacuse of my mistake then i am not happy to accept it, it about how
as a customer i trusted you and then al the disappointment you will
get, there is no doubt about how good is karma and GOpro but their is
still lots of improvement required and bugs in the drone needs to be
address. I bought thinking that i will do something with it and make a
career out of it ,i have lots of dreams behind the scene which i
wasnt expecting will end with in 2 months of buying it, i had lots of
hope and it all faded.

Thank you GOPRO

I am just one customer and loosing me wont affect you at all but
loosing GOPRO faded all my hopes and dreams.

THank you SO much

To add up to my claims this is what i found in user manual

CALIBRATION
Accelerometer and compass calibration might be required at times to
ensure the best flight performance from Karma.
The compass and accelerometer on both the drone and the controller
are calibrated automatically. However, if either of these components
must be recalibrated, the controller notifies you and provides step-bystep
instructions to guide you through the process.

IT didnt asked me to do it manually except for the first time when i
used it after that it was always done automatically, if that the case
then it a manufacture problems.

I am expecting a call from one of the guy at support around 5 pm this
afternoon ,looking forward to hear from you.

Thank you

I had a fly away on Oct 10 17th and was less than 50 meters from the drone when it happened. I also saw it flying in a single direction very quick and just hold the descend button to make it crash (instead of loosing it) but it never happened! Talked to gopro and after a long analisys I am receiving pieces back.

Hey so please tell me how you were able to convince them that this drone was a malfunction! Did you lose it and not find it because that is exactly what happened to me, the customer service said that my drone was not calibrated however I’ve had the same thing occur where if it didn’t need to be calibrated it would fly. Before i took off with my final flight, the drone said low GPS signal but it usually never has a great signal anyhow, never the less when I flew it out into the area it went out a few hundred yards and began to tell me miderate signal the. Completely dropped GPS, as standard in the warranty and safety instructions it tells that if the drone loses signal that it will return home, return to last known GPS location or simply land in place. None of these fail features worked and I witnessed my equipment soaring fast into the distance. Please if you have any insight help me in providing information to customer service to explain my case for replacements

Just have one question for the GOPRO team... Are you working on fixing this WIFI/GPS/Connection problem or should I just go buy a DJI? If you are not going to fix this I would love a full refund for my NON Working wanna be drone which I will send back to you in full with no missing or broken parts. I cannot use this at all if it is uncontrollable.

The exact wording in manual is:

If the controller loses connection to Karma, Karma hovers in place while the controller tries to re-establish a connection. If a connection cannot be re-established, Karma returns to the launch location.

Now please tell us where it says anything about GPS in that statement? How does the aircraft know where it is at time of failure and route it is taking home with no GPS? Say you have coordinates for your home in your car’s GPS and the GPS looses all satellites. Can that GPS now tell you how to get home, much less drive the car there automatically?

Anyone who is totally dependent on GPS should not be flying any drone, especially one which is telling you it has a week signal! Buy a small racing drone, no GPS, and learn to fly it consistently, then fly the Karma. To me it is obvious the Karma has attracted a lot of people as users who do not understand the systems in a quad and are not good UAV pilots and put their aircraft bad situations. Karma ends up taking a bad rap. I got mine just for picture taking and only have a little over 5 hours flight time logged on it, but have no issues other than range being a little restricted in areas with potential for interference which is expected. No, I do not work for GoPro.

So you're saying it's possible to take great photos without GPS ? Keeping a drone in place whilst composing a photo ? Even our Top Gun Tom would struggle with that one....

Where did I say that? If you loose GPS and you are flying within reasonable limits shooting video whatever, are you capable of flying the aircraft home? I have had GPS drop twice, both times in areas with potential interference, and aircraft does some very quirky things very quickly. I firmly believe most here cannot fly without GPS and sudden loss results in so called “fly away” for them.

Why does everyone assume the karma is supposed to be "just like the DJI"...whatever? Look at who sells it, go ahead i'll wait....

That's right GoPro, it's only designed to be a flying mount for the GoPro camera. I'd say it does a pretty good job of it too. It wasn't designed to go a mile away, it wasn't designed to totally compete with any other major brand out there.
It does have some issues I see with fly offs, I can't say if it's the fault of the drone or pilot error, I wasn't there.
I would like to buy a new one, but, I have some reserves about it flying off on me too. Is it really a problem with devise? IDK
I will say, I can control it fairly well without GPS, I have some experience. If it's controllable of course.

So, as of today 11-24-2017, is there an issue with flying off uncontrollably? I would like to hear from someone who knows how to fly without GPS and their experiences.

I don't mean to sound like I'm being mean or condescending, I just see it as a different kind of machine than most think it is.

Believe in what you said above to start. It is a real good GoPro platform. As I said is really weird when it drops GOS in flight and has happened in city twice to me but I recovered snd brought back and landed by me no problem. I do fly RC helicopters and quads though. I truly think that is biggest difference.

Some say they out in the country when the Karma just takes off. I am sure a failure could probably do that but ,,,,,,,,

During my second flight on Christmas Day, my Karma lost GPS signal and fly away more than 300 feet in height and more than 750 feet in distance. After much praying and struggling 8 minutes with Karma to bring it back, I miraculously succeeded. I felt really lucky, I thought I will not see it again!!! This experience gave me a sense of insecurity while flying the drone. This experience has not repeated.
