There seems to be some mis-understanding about flying in warning areas in the US.

My partner can fly without contacting the airport because he has FAA 107 certification.

Without certification, you can fly in warning areas as long as you call the airport and notify them. Certainly not all areas. But I’ve called 10 different airports and have gotten permission 10 times. So if you live near a small airport- and you’re within 5 miles of them and your Karma says restricted zone, just call the airport and get permission. Usually it’s no problem.

I use the FAA app B4UFLY to tell me which airports I have to contact- it’s free!

Hope that helps—

Do you have to call each time you fly or each time you are near a new airport?

Yes, I’ve actually become friends with a couple of the airport people. They are very nice and are only concerned with safety. If you are flying near a small airport, they will direct traffic away from the drone.
